EventEdit

The event was held at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles; hosted by director Frank Capra. Best Dance Direction was introduced, DW Griffith earned an Honorary Oscar for distinguished creative achievements as director and producer and his invaluable initiative and lasting contributions to the progress of the motion picture arts. This is also the second and final year that write-ins were allowed (A Midsummer Nights Dream had a write-in for cinematography and became the only film to win a write-in vote). This is the first time that an Academy Award was referred to as an "Oscar". Another first: screenwriter Dudley Nichols refused to accept his Oscar due to antagonism between several industry guilds and AMPAS over union disagreements.
