Events[]
Held at the Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles and hosted by Bob Hope, this marked the very first time that a presenter won in the category he presented (Irving Berlin). Something that never happened before or again was that the Documentary category had 4 winners. Greer Garson's best actress speech ran 6 minutes, making this the longest acceptance speech from anybody. Sidney Franklin earned an Irving G Thalberg award, 3 Honorary Oscars were given: 1 for Charles Boyer for linking the French Research Foundation in Los Angeles to the industry, Noel Coward for the war film In Better We Serve, and one for MGM for their Andy Hardy movies; all of which displayed the ways of American life.
