Steve Martin returns as host. With the US declaring war on Iraq, the show was almost postponed. But it went on as planned but they had to cancel the red carpet. Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson, although they lost, have tied with Katherine Hepburn's 12 nominations. And to celebrate the 75th Show, Olivia deHavilland introduced 59 Oscar winners of year's past to highlight. Peter O'Toole was given an honorary Oscar for providing cinema history with some memorable characters. Meanwhile, 2 Scientific Technical Awards were presented: one to Alias/Wavefront for the development of a 3D animation, dynamics, modeling, and rendering production tool known as Maya and one to Arnold & Richter Cine Technik and Panavison, Inc., for their continuing development and innovation in the design and manufacturing of advanced camera systems specifically designed for the motion picture entertainment industry.
