Bob Hope once agains cohosts the ceremony this time with Jimmy Stewart at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Now that WWII is finally over, the ceremonies are now far more glamourous than ever before. Plaster statuettes have been replaced (permanetley) with bronze statuettes with gold plating. Joan Crawford didn't attend the ceremony fearing she would lose. However when she won (best Actress, Mildred Pierce) her award was delivered to her in bed later that night. Peggy Ann Garner was given an Juvenile Award. 3 Honorary Oscars were given: one to Daniel J Bloomberg and the Republic Studio staff for building a music auditorium providing optimum recording conditions and combining all elements of engineering and acoustic design, one for Walter Wagner for his 6 years as AMPAS' president, and one to Frank Sinatra, Mervyn LeRoy, Frank Ross, Albert Maltz, Earl Robinson and Lewis Allan for The House I Live In as a tolerance short subject.
