Events[]
David Niven, John Huston, Burt Reynolds, and Diana Ross shared hosting duties at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. This ceremony is infamous for a streaking stunt done by Robert Opel, a photographer and art gallery owner who snuck backstage disguising himself as a journalist and streaked the show just as David Niven was going to introduce Elizabeth Taylor, who presented the Best Picture Award. Marvin Hamlisch became the only composer to win 3 Oscars in one night. Katherine Hepburn attended the ceremony for the only time to present her friend and producer Lawrence Weingarten with an Irving G. Thalberg Award. Lew Wasserman walked home with a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and 2 honorary Oscars were given. One to Groucho Marx for the Marx Brothers' creativity in comedy pictures and one to Henri Langolis for his devotion to the art of film and contributions to preserving the past.
